Love songs maybe do not often seem realistic, but if asked what I think of as the most realistic First Love song then I would go for this ;
LONG LIVE LOVE - Sandy Shaw 1965
Venus must have heard my plea,
She has sent someone along for me.
I have waited a long long time
For somebody to call mine,
And at last he's come along
Baby oh nothing can go wrong.
We meet every night at eight
And I don't get home till late.
I say to myself each day
Baby oh long long live love.
Mmmm
True love must be the greatest thing
I know now why singers sing,
Of the moon and stars above
How I love to be in love.
We meet every night at eight
And I don't get home till late.
I say to myself each day
Baby oh long long live love.
Now of one thing I'm more than sure
Since love come I don't want more,
Than to kiss him every night
Makes everything alright.
We meet every night at eight
And I don't get home till late.
I say to myself each day
Baby oh long long live love.
Mmmmm
We meet every night at eight
And I don't get home till late.
I say to myself each day
Baby oh long long live love.
Mmmmm
Long long live love.
The waiting a long time, and the great effort put in till late are maybe soon forgotten. And like first love, first parenthood and maybe first school, first work and some other firsts ?
And is it fulfilling raw instincts or just fulfilling strong social pressures, and some going bad or wearing off ?
Human nature or nurture.

Yes a great 60's First Love song Clare.
There are maybe more Second Loves today, and though I am sure that they often do involve exactly the same things, there are few songs about that !
Of course pop song writing is largely by the young, and many of the young today put love on the back-burner for much later in favour of fun and games. We do have Playstation etc etc now, so rather less love songs !?

Do'nt know about that Grimdad, but another First Love song that I love is Only Sixteen ;
Only Sixteen, by Sam Cooke 1959
also recorded by The Supremes, Dr Hook (on YouTube) and others.
She was only sixteen, only sixteen
I loved her so
But she was too young to fall in love
And I was too young to know.
We'd laugh and we'd sing
and do the little things
that made my heart glow
But she was too young to fall in love
And I was too young to know.
Why did I give my heart so fast
it never will happen again
But I was a mere lad of sixteen
I've aged a year since then.
She was only sixteen, only sixteen
with eyes that would glow
But she was too young to fall in love
and I was too young to know.
(So why did you give your heart so fast)
Oh it never will happen again
(But you were a mere lad of sixteen)
I've aged a year since then.
She was only sixteen, only sixteen
with eyes that would glow
But she was too young to fall in love
And I was too young to know
Oh she was too young to fall in love
And I was too young to know.
(HEAR IT in the 'Selena Gomez can sing' post here.)
