Reading Carp

Post by K »

Another fishing poem, I must take up the rod again soon.

Envisage a shell-shocked stare!
A gammy pulp of lip
Gulping superfluous air:

A beehive bloated body, where
Yellows acquiesce to gold and
a fat summer paunch heaves

Like a drum: my ear near, my
Eye exposed as barbed steel glints
From the gills, sharp as fear.

A leaden aura of incarceration
Ensues;

Which for that moment explains:
Then for a lifetime exhumes.

Great poem K, it's a long time since I went fishing but I could see the carp within your poem. Well done.
Though retired, I'm still working as an editor for a poetry/short story magazine.
