Hannah Montana, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato - kid power

Post by Adam »

Some good songs have come out of Disney Channel's 2006 hit TV series 'Hannah Montana' aimed at 8 to 12-year-olds but watched also by many rather older like me. Miley Cyrus plays a successful 13 year old singer Hannah Montana, and here is one of the songs that she sings ;

Who Said, Hannah Montana, by Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil

I'm more than just
Your average girl.
I like to turn me up
And show the world. Oh yeah !

'Cause some can talk the talk
But this girl just wants to rock,
I'm individual.
I'm not like anyone.
I can be glamorous,
Just like you see in all the magazines.
I can be cool as ice,
Or anything I wanna be !

Who said, who said, I can't be Superman !
I say, I say, that I know I can !
Who said, who said, I won't be President !
I say, I say, You ain't seen nothin' yet !

Oh yeah ! Yeah !

Who wanna make some noise,
Every girl has a choice.
To live their own parade
I do it my way ! Aw !
I can be soft and sweet
Or louder than the radio.
I can be sophisticated
or totally go out of control.
I've got the choice.

Who said, who said, I can't be Superman !
I say, I say, that I know I can !
Who said, who said I'm not electrifying !
I say, I say there's no holding back !

Then get right on track
'cause you control the game.
So let em know your name
No limitations on imagination
Imagine that ! Yeah !

Who said, who said, I can't be worldwide !
I say, I say, time is on my side !
Who said, who said, I can't be ten feet tall !
I say, I say, that I can have it all !

Who said, who said, I can't be Superman !
I say, I say, that I know I can !
Who said, who said, I won't be President !
I say, I say, You ain't seen nothin' yet !

You ain't seen nothin' yet !
Oh Yeah !
Who Said ?
Come on ! Yeah !
That's right !

Listen ;

PS. There is lots of this Kid Power song stuff being promoted these days - good for strong parents but maybe not for weaker parents ?

Yes I watch the Hannah Montana show as well, and I do like 'Who Said' !!

An older Pink Floyd song that I consider a bit kid-power is this one ;

Another Brick In The Wall, Pink Floyd 1972

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teacher, leave them kids alone
Hey, Teacher, leave them kids alone
All in all it's just another brick in the wall
All in all you're just another brick in the wall

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers, leave them kids alone
Hey, Teacher, leave us kids alone
All in all you're just another brick in the wall
All in all you're just another brick in the wall

( all repeating [Teacher:] )
"Wrong, Do it again."
"If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding.
How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?"
"You! Yes, you behind the bike sheds, stand still laddy!"

Some of the Hannah Montana songs are little more than ads for the show and time fillers.
But another one of her song I really like, and only half kids power, is this one ;

Life's What You Make It, Hannah Montana

Don't let no small frustration,
Ever bring you down. (no, no, no, no)
Just take a situation,
And turn it all around,

With a new attitude everything can change,
Make it how you want it to be,
Staying mad, why do that ?
Give yourself a break,
Laugh about it and you'll see !

Life's what you make it,
So let's make it rock,
Life's what you make it, so come on !
Come on, everybody now !

Why be sad, broken hearted?
There's so much to do (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Life is hard or it's a party ! (It's a party)
The choice is up to you !

With a new attitude everything can change,
Make it how you want it to be,
Staying sad, why do that ?
Give yourself a break,
I know you wanna party with me !

Life's what you make it,
So let's make it rock,
Life's what you make it, so come on !
Come on, everybody now !

Let's celebrate it !
Join in everyone !
You decide, (you decide)
Cause life's, (cause life's)
What you make it

Things are looking up !
Anytime you want !
All you gotta do is realize that,
It's under your control,
So let the good times rock and roll !

Ow ! Come on everybody!
D-d-d-do it now!
Aaaaaah ! Oh ! Alright !
Let's get the party started ! Yeah, yeah, yeah !
Now that's a party ! Yeah, yeah !
Put your hands together ! (Whew !)

Life's what you make it,
So let's make it rock,
Life's what you make it, so come on !
Come on, everybody now !

Let's celebrate it !
Join in everyone !
You decide, (you decide)
Cause life's, (cause life's)
What you make it

Life is what you make it!

Hi AllMost. I do agree that some Hannah Montana songs are just ads for the TV show and they drive me nuts.

But she does do some very good songs, and a love song of hers that I do really like is her "If We Were A Movie".

Yes I like some Hannah Montana (or Miley Cyrus ) songs including If We Were A movie.
I also like her Bigger Than Us about how being in love is similar to having a belief in a hero/religion/politics/sports or whatever,

Bigger Than Us, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus 2007 - T.James, A.Armato

(L.O.V.E. oh … L.O.V.E.)
(L.O.V.E. oh … L.O.V.E.)

I see your face, I look in your eyes.
What you feel is no surprise,
Everyone needs something to believe in.
Tell me your dreams and I'll tell you mine.
In our hearts we'll look inside
And see all the colors of a rainbow.
I know !

We all want to believe in love.
We all want to believe in something,
Bigger than just us !
We all want to be a part
Of the greater picture,
That's hanging in our hearts.
Yeah it's bigger than us.

I want to see beyond my own little world,
Grab your hand so we can twirl around the galaxy.
See the world with clarity oh, oh !
Oh, oh, we have such a long way to go
But I know we're getting closer every day.
Every day !

We all want to believe in love.
We all want to believe in something,
Bigger than just us !
We all want to be a part
Of the greater picture,
That's hanging in our hearts.
Yeah it's bigger than us.

It fills the universe,
Lights the skies above.
It rescues all our hearts,
With love...(L.O.V.E. love)
With love...(L.O.V.E. love)
That's what's bigger than us. (bigger than us, come on !)

It's love, it's love that's bigger than us.
It's love, it's love that's bigger than us.
It's love, it's love, it's love, it's love, it's love, it's love.

We all wanna believe in love.
We all wanna believe in something,
Bigger than just us !

:wtf:

Another recent Disney singing star is Selena Gomez, and she might have made a better Hannah Montana if she had not been cast as a witch in Wizards Of Waverly Place instead ? Not so convinced about the songs of her friend Demi Lovato yet. And I suppose that the next will be the iCarly/School of Rock girl Miranda Cosgrove ?

Naturally by Selena Gomez 2010

How you choose to express yourself
Its all your own and I can tell
It comes naturally,
it comes naturally.
You follow what you feel inside,
It's intuitive, you don't have to try,
It comes naturally,
It comes naturally.
And it takes my breath away
What you do, so naturally.

You are the thunder and I am the lightning,
And I love the way you know who you are,
And to me it's exciting,
When you know it's meant to be,
Everything comes naturally,
It comes naturally,
When you're with me baby,
Everything comes naturally,
It comes naturally,
(Ba-Ba-Baby)

You have a way of moving me,
A force of nature, your energy,
It comes naturally,
(You know it does,)
It comes naturally,
(Oh yeah)
And it takes my breath away (Everytime)
What you do, so naturally.

You are the thunder and I am the lightning,
And I love the way you know who you are,
And to me it's exciting,
When you know it's meant to be,
Everything comes naturally,
It comes naturally,
When you're with me baby,
Everything comes naturally,
It comes naturally,
(Ba-Ba-Baby)

When we collide, sparks fly
When you look in my eyes,
it takes my breath away.

(You are) You are the thunder and I am the lightening
And I love the way you know who you are
And to me it's exciting
When you know it's meant to be
Everything comes naturally,
it comes naturally
When you're with me, baby
Everything comes naturally,
it comes naturally
Ba-Ba-baby.

Naturally (x5)
Ba-Ba-baby
Naturally (x5)
Everything baby comes naturally.

Yes allmost. I also like your Selena Gomez song, a Disney girl like Miley Cyrus (or Hannah Montana) and Demi Lovato and Miranda Cosgrove.

They all seem in too much of a rush to get songs out, so song quality tends to be mostly weak and use TV-show music.

Demi Lovato's best song to date is maybe her 'Here We Go Again' but her more recent 'We Can't Back Down' may feel more genuine ? And I do like Miranda Cosgrove's 'Headphones On'.

Here We Go Again, Demi Lovato 2009

I throw all of your stuff away
Then I cleared you out of my head
I tore you out of my heart
And ignored all your messages

I tell everyone we got through
Because I’m so much better without you
But its just another pretty
like a side breakdown
Every time you come around.
Oh, oh…

So how do you get here under my skin
Swore that I’d never let you back in
Shoulda’ known better
Been tryin’ let you go cause here we go, go, go again
Hard as I try I know I cant quit
Something about you is so addicting
We’re falling together
You think that by now I know cause here we go, go, go again

You never know what you want
And you never say what you mean
But I start to go insane
Every time that you look at me

You only hear half of what I say
And you’re always showing up too late
And I know that I should say
good bye, bye it’s no use
Can’t be with or without you.
oh, oh....

So how do you get here under my skin
Swore that I’d never let you back in
Shoulda’ known better
Been tryin’ let you go cause here we go, go, go again
Hard as I try I know I cant quit
Something about you is so addicting
We’re falling together
You think that by now I know cause here we go, go, go again

again….
and again, and again, and again, and again, and again….

I throw all of your stuff away
Then I cleared you out of my head
And I tore you out of my heart
oh, oh, oh, oh

So how do you get here under my skin
Swore that I’d never let you back in
Shoulda’ known better
Been tryin’ let you go cause here we go, go, go again
Hard as I try I know I cant quit
Something about you is so addicting
We’re falling together
You think that by now I know cause here we go, go, go again

Here we go again…
Shoulda’ known better
Been tryin’ let you go cause here we go, go, go again…
again...
and again, again, again, again, again and again, again, again and again and again and again and again.

And,
Headphones On, Miranda Cosgrove 2009

Home with my headphones on
And with the stuff on the floor
And the lock on my door.

10:28 on the digital clock
I know it's late but I just can't stop
All this jumpin' around
All this wastin' time
It's getting to get a habit of mine

You would think I didn't wanna get paid
I'm not the type to procrastonate
But a girl can't always be well behaved

Wanna stay home with my headphones on
With the stuff on the floor
And the lock on my door
I lost my keys in the mess I made
So I can't go anywhere anyway
So rock on
With my headphones on

Got a lot of nothin' to do
I'm not getting it done
And i'm loving it too
24 hours since i've been outside
But it feels okay
It feels alright

I could go to school another day
Don't understand why I dance all day
You know what they say about
All work and no play

Wanna stay home with my headphones on
With the stuff on the floor
And the lock on my door
I lost my keys in the mess I made
So I can't go anywhere anyway
So rock on
With my headphones on

With the headphones on
Its like fireworks in my head
Above the clouds
I may never get to bed
Can't turn back now
Don't wanna come down

You would think I don't wanna get paid
I'm not the type to procrastinate
But a girl can't always be well behaved

Wanna stay home with my headphones on
With the stuff on the floor
And the lock on my door
I lost my keys in the mess I made
So I can't go anywhere anyway

Wanna stay home with my headphones on
With the stuff on the floor
And the lock on my door
I lost my keys in the mess I made
So I can't go anywhere anyway
Rock on
With the headphones on

With the headphones on
With the headphones on

Disney are also building up other teen girl singers besides Hanna Montana / Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Miranda Cosgrove. They are putting out a lot of low quality Commercial TV Songs and Tweenie Pop Songs - but with the occasional better song. One that I half like is Me, Myself and Time by Demi Lovato ;

Me, Myself and Time by Demi Lovato 2010.

I can make the rain stop, if I wanna
Just by my attitude
I can take my laptop, record a snapshot
And change your point of view

I just entered this brand new world
And I'm so open hearted
I know I've got a long way to go
but I'm, I'm just getting started

I'm over my head and
I know it, I know it
I'm doing my best
Not to show it, to show it
Whatever it takes to be
What I was meant to be
I'm gonna try

'Cause I'm Living the dream
And I know it, I know it
I'm trying my best
Not to blow it, to blow it
And I know everything will be fine
With me, myself, and time

And time... (7x)

I go where life takes me
but some days it makes me
Want to change my direction
Sometimes it gets lonely but I know
that it's only a matter of my perception

I just entered this brand new world
And I'm so open hearted
I know I've got a long way to go
but I'm, I'm just getting started

I'm over my head and
I know it, I know it
I'm doin' my best
Not to show it, to show it
Whatever it takes to be
What I was meant to be
I'm gonna try

'Cause I'm Living the dream
And I know it, I know it
I'm trying my best
Not to blow it, to blow it
And I know everything will be fine
With me, myself, and time

And maybe there's nothing like this moment
To just be real and let the truth be spoken
Whatever's broke I can make it unbroken
Turn the led in my hand into something golden

Just try, more love
If I just try, more love
Then I'll find myself in time

I'm over my head and
I know it, I know it
I'm doin' my best
Not to show it, to show it
Whatever it takes to be
What I was meant to be
I'm gonna try

I'm over my head and
I know it, I know it
I'm doin' my best
Not to show it, to show it
Whatever it takes to be
What I was meant to be
I'm gonna try

'Cause I'm Living the dream
And I know it, I know it
I'm trying my best
Not to blow it, to blow it
And I know everything will be fine
With me, myself, and time

(I'll find myself in time
I know I'll find myself in time)

:wtf:

Am not so impressed with Demi's latest single 'Heart Attack' where the lyric seems very strained and everything else about it poor. Hopefully the album to follow will have something better on it ?!

Will also be looking to see if Selena can get back into singing where she belongs, do not see her as a good actress or her films as good films.

In the Disney film 'Frozen', two versions of the song 'Let It Go' are sung - one version by Idina Menzel during the film and another version by Demi Lovato during the film credits.
Both are good but the version by Idina is a bit softer and the version by Demi a bit sharper, so it may be a matter of taste which people prefer but the Idina version maybe edges it ?
