Schools for baby-sitting ?

So UK state schools are now going to open 8am to 6pm, the increase in hours not for increased teaching but as a cheap baby-sitter service.

A cheap baby-sitter service certainly seems a good idea. But is it also really admitting that for many kids school is not for learning - and will this just help boost that idea ?

I agree Colin that reliable cheap baby-sitting is good.

But schools doing more of that is likely to undermine schools as places of learning, and seems likely to make more parents consider homeschooling ?
