I have heard a few very good Selena Gomez songs and am really impressed with some of her singing.
Selena has come through the Disney kids route with Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus), Demi Lovato and Miranda Cosgrove.

They have all maybe been pushing out too great a quantity of songs, so that many are lower quality. But with her best songs Selena Gomez is way the best singer and she has done a few very good songs. Her poor songs can be very poor but at her best I think she compares well with the great Joan Baez and could be great with some songs like Unquiet Grave modernised and in her own singing style ?

Two of Selana's songs that I do like are 'Naturally' and 'A Year Without Rain', though the lyrics are maybe not great and some of the singing may have some technology boosting.

Well yes Selana can certainly sing, and I do like her 'Like A Love Song'. To me it has a touch of the young-teenager lyric like Sam Cook's classic song 'Only Sixteen' which I also like a lot though a rather different lost-young-love song,

Well yes Selena can certainly sing and she has done a few very good songs but also a lot of weak songs.
I would really like to see her improve the average quality of the songs she records, and maybe include a few good covers.

Selena could do a good version of the Joan Baez classic 'The Unquiet Grave' maybe, and something like 'Donna' (maybe rewritten as 'Harry') ? And maybe Selena could do something around the medieval 'Ancient person of my heart' or on that theme the 'Mrs Robinson' Simon and Garfunkel song written for the college coming-of-age film 'The Graduate'
- the nearest other I know of being the perhaps somewhat cheaper 'Mr Robinson' song 'My heart belongs to daddy' the successful 1938 stage musical song written by Cole Porter with covers by Eartha Kitt 1953, Marilyn Monroe 1960, Ella Fitzgerald 1972, Sophie Milman 2004 and others - some with lyric variations.

Selena can sing, but sadly she seems to be side-lining her great singing and her band The Scene and her singing fans for 'acting'. Following her Monte Carlo film that involves some three young girls messing around... for which Oscars are not to be expected. She is apparently doing more film parts this year, seemingly now trying to become an adult badgirl actress.

But while she no doubt could be a great singer, I see little sign of her being great at non-singing acting, and her age being 19 seems to suit building an adult singing career more than an adult acting career which undoubtedly needs an age nearer 21. Hopefully she may get it better sooner rather than too later.

Well Clare I hear that Selena is getting back to some music soon, and taking Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake as her role models. To me that looks like going for popularity first and skill last, and maybe rather like taking the Dollar as a role model. But the public shift with fashions and can be stupid, and could easily lead someone to alcohol, smoking, drugs, ** and maybe even worse.
I would rather she study Joan Baez or Imelda May and maybe become a more fun, rocking and positive version of them ?

For now it is looking unlikely to me that Selena will put much effort into developing her musical skills, but I will still look forward to seeing what new songs she does.

Selena Gomez has not done much singing since dumping her group The Scene, and it shows in her latest single 'The Heart Wants What It Wants'. It is not a song to please music-lovers, though it may well please Selena herself.

The song is really awful and the video with it is cringeworthy - its message is the absolute opposite of her friend Demi Lovato's great song 'Skyscraper'.

To avoid poor songs like this Selena maybe needs to spend a year or two getting back into her music properly, or maybe drop music ?!
