I don't know about all the dissimilar theories, but I think the easy way to understand gravity is by seeing it as the propensity of matter to attract toward other matter with superior intensity as proximity increases.

Magnetism is alike to gravity in that magnets attract each other with greater intensity as distance between them decreases, but they are allegedly different forces.
