Lord of the Flies

Post by Colin »

:twisted:
Some schools are studying that excellent book Lord of the Flies by William Golding, where children marooned on an uninhabited island become savages.

A good website to look at for Lord of the Flies and other fairly modern novels is http://www.novelguide.com

The film is great as well, but maybe a bit terrifying ?

Yes a good one Colin, Lord of the Flies is a good read and the film was certainly a great film as well.

Different people might get different things from it ;

1. Only government makes us civilised. However bad governments can make citizens uncivilised and start war and atrocities ?

2. Only religion makes us civilised. But bad religion also can make its followers uncivilised and start war and atrocities ?

3. Only parents make us civilised. But some good parents can have awful children ?

4. Only an easy life makes us civilised. But many living tough lives have been very civilised ?

Maybe a civilisation just needs all its children feeling that society and family treats them all reasonably fairly, chiefly needing reasonable government, reasonable religion and reasonable parents ?
